$5
December 14, 2008
I spent my five dollars on the Art O Mat at Krankie’s Coffee and I got some 3D pictures with glasses made by Dean Walch. It was kind of tricky to look at them with both my regular glasses and the cardboard ones on at the same time but what I saw was truly worth the money!
Library Books
December 14, 2008

Sorry for the blurriness of the above photographs but they weren’t particularly interesting books. I picked them out from the section of english literature critiques. They only have solid colored covers except for the one about Lord Byron that had a lion embossed on it.
This one went into Golding: The Lord of the Flies by John S. Whitley. I only pictured the front of this gift insert because I left the back blank.
This one had the appearace of a love letter because the book was a collcetion of letter exchanged between the poet W.B. Yeats and Margot Ruddock. The name of the book is Ah, Sweet Dancer.
I thought about making a collague of nude figures to accompony this collection of raunchy poetry, but in the end I decided to go with a more tasteful pun on the tittle as I did with the “Lord of the Flies.”
The book was Lord Byron by Paul G. Trueblood and I learned a lot of scanalous things about this famous author from skimming through the pages but didn’t get a lot of inspiration from it. Ironically, this insert was probably my favorite although I had the least direction about what I wanted to do so I ended up doodling a heart pattern.
Oscar Wilde: A Critical Study by Arthur Ransome was a good choice for me because I love his story “The Portrait of Dorian Gray” and I knew what I wanted to draw right away. I wasn’t completely pleased with how it came out with colored pencils.
Plexiglass Layers
December 14, 2008
Cut outs of colored paper and layers of plexiglass made in groups. At the last few moments I wasn’t happy with how our’s looked and I convinced out group that we should take it apart and franitcally race the clock to make another, which they did with equal success to our first results.
Music Composition
December 14, 2008

My song was an instrumental composition by Melora Creager from the gothic cello rock group Rasputina. You can hear a clip of the music from the link at the top. Most of Rasputina’s music has lyrics that are based on historical events which intrest me a lot. She toured with Nirvana in Europe before Kurt Cobain died, but she has released 6 albums since then with a drummer and other various cello players. I believe that the track I used was only two cellos probably both played by Melora and put together.
My artwork was done with black ink wash and ink pen and here are some close ups of parts.

2D Wood Sculptures
December 14, 2008
We got to get some scraps of wood in groups of four then we were given different things to build. My favorite one was the robot looking one of course although I could tell that Professor Walton wasn’t too thrilled with it, I thought Grace might like it, which she did.
Google Images on Mylar
December 14, 2008

I traced the images from a google search for the work “unicorns” onto mylar with a graphite pencil. Tracing is kind of boring for me. Below are some of the images I used from the search.

Diebenkorn Sketches
December 14, 2008
These are the composition sketches made from the photos I took. They are really rough but I ended up using the one with the light in it as the inspiration for the mylar project of Unicorns next.
Diebenkorn Photography
December 14, 2008
My photos were taken at Myrtle Beach where I went for fall break. It was the first time that I had been to the beach in 4 years and I loved it. I even got to get a bit of a tan and play in the ocean while I was there because the weather was a little warm. It was hard to find man made areas that I wanted to photograph for this project while there was so many sandy landscapes to enjoy. I stuck around the condo for most of these and I wasn’t sure if the one of the harbor would count since it has some water in it but I liked it a lot.
Charcoal Diebenkorn Drawings
December 13, 2008
Brian was my partner and I lost the original artwork. I’ll post it later if I find it but I’m not very hopeful about that. I hated working on this piece. Charcoal is gross and Brian is annoyingly particular about things in a different way from me. I’m glad it’s over with.
Candy
November 5, 2008
The black ones tasted aweful but I liked how they sort of blended in with the heating coil on the electric stove top. For the manipulated picture I drew a face on a yellow one and stuck him up on top of a toothpick to give the illusion of a group of native savages making a sacrifice out of him. Arn’t I funny?
